The greater part of this neighbourhood and the country north and east of Shawville, which was beginning to suffer from drought, received the benefit of a pretty heavy downpour on Tuesday afternoon last. Had it not been for the accompanying thunderstorm, satisfaction would have been general, but thunderstorms usually leave in their wake, somewhere and in some manner, misfortunes, the recollection of which makes their recurrence a matter of dread to those who have suffered from the freaks of the electric current. We learn that the recent storm caused the death of a horse at Mr. Albert Elliott’s in North Clarendon, while a neighbour, Mr. Thomas Murphy had his barn struck and fired by lightning but with the help of neighbours the fire was extinguished before much damage was done.
