Quebec is nearing the milestone of 2 million vaccines administered as the Pontiac service area (RLS) undergoes vaccination of the age 60-69 population group roughly one month into . . .
the general public vaccinating process.
According to CISSSO figures from April 9 that were requested by THE EQUITY, vaccination rates in both the 70 and up and 80 and up age groups are high.
Among residents aged 80 and older, a total of 688 people have received first dosages of the vaccine, which accounts for 86.6 per cent of that group’s population in the Pontiac.
Meanwhile, 83.7 per cent of total residents aged 70 to 79 have received a dose, which amounts to 1,675 people.
For the age group receiving vaccines currently, those aged 60 to 69, a total of 1,054 residents, or 34 per cent, have received a single dose.
A total of 426 residents aged 16 to 59 have received a dose as well, which includes health care workers and those within close contact of people who were among the first to be vaccinated in long-term care homes. This accounts for just 4.3 per cent of that age bracket.
While those aged 60 and up are still the youngest people eligible to schedule appointments to receive a vaccine at the Campbell’s Bay RA Centre, Astra Zeneca vaccines will begin to be distributed at Uniprix Santé Pharmacy in Shawville to people aged 55 and older. Appointments can be made to receive a dose of the vaccine at https://portal3.clicsante.ca/.
Astra Zeneca vaccines have also begun being distributed on a walk-in basis for people aged 55 and older at Palais des Congrès in Gatineau as of April 8.
According to CISSSO media relations officer Marie-Pier Després, the health authority is working out logistics in order to make a similar drop-in situation available at other vaccination sites in the Outaouais.
