New Quyon cafe combines heritage with homemade meals

Mitch Trudeau, owner of the new Clarendon Street Cafe in Quyon, always wanted to open his own restaurant, which finally came true on March 27. He and his staff offer homemade meals and a cozy space tied into the history of the town.

Quyon’s got a brand new place to chow down: the Clarendon Street Cafe is now open for business as of March 27.

Upon walking into the restaurant at 1099 Clarendon Street, visitors will notice the . . .

modern yet rustic décor, the vibrant yellow walls and the historical Quyon photos and documents lining them. A separate room to the right is dimly lit with fairy lights and black drapes, imitating a night sky. Hungry customers can choose from a menu of salads, sandwiches, pizza and more.

The cafe has been in the works since October 2020; a dream for owner Mitch Trudeau that has finally come true.

“We wanted to do something different than a chip stand. We offer homemade pastries, soups and salads, a bit more elegant…” Trudeau said. “The whole theme behind it is based on the heritage of the old highway that used to go through here … it was to tie in heritage with a cozy-looking cafe which I think I’ve accomplished.”

The cafe can hold about 30 customers at a time and also offers an outdoor patio where guests can safely enjoy their meals in the warmer weather. Indoor dining is also available, with the tables being adequately spaced apart. Currently there are five employees, made up of Trudeau’s family and friends.

Trudeau had worked in the fast food industry in the past, but never had his own restaurant. It was something he had wanted to do for a while, and when a friend was selling her kitchen equipment, Trudeau decided to make the leap. The building it’s in was previously a fitness centre for two years where Trudeau worked.

He is looking forward to seeing new and old faces alike and hopes his business can bring the community even closer.

“We’d like to see as many people as we could, especially familiar, local people. It’s a place where friends can gather especially after COVID’s over.”

The interior of the eatery is decorated with rustic decor and historical photos and documents, an homage to the highway that used to run through the town.
A separate section of the restaurant is decorated differently from the bright main room, offering a quieter more peaceful atmosphere for people to enjoy their meals in.
