Our deepest condolences to the Derouin and Mutchmore families on the loss of their son Gaëtan in a tragic accident at the age of 21. It is important to sign your organ donation consent at the back of your driver’s license. It can save many lives. Though tragic, Gaetan gave others a chance.

Our sympathies to . . .

This past Sunday was Palm Sunday, and it is also called Passion Sunday in the Christian tradition. It commemorates Jesus triumphant entry into Jerusalem. This Sunday was the first day of Holy Week. Palm Sunday is associated with the blessing and procession of palms.

April 1 is Holy Thursday and is the commemoration of the Last Supper of Jesus Christ, when he established Holy Communion prior to his arrest and crucifixion. It also commemorates His institution of the priesthood. The holy day falls on the Thursday before Easter and is part of Holy Week. Jesus celebrated the dinner as a Passover feast.

This year Pesach (Passover) started on March 27 and will finish on April 4. The eight-day festival of Passover is celebrated in the early spring, from the 15th through the 22nd of the Hebrew month of Nissan. It commemorates the emancipation of the Israelites from slavery in Egypt.

Good Friday is a Christian holiday commemorating the crucifixion of Jesus and his death at Calvary. It is observed during Holy Week as part of the Paschal Triduum on the Friday preceding Easter Sunday and may coincide with the Jewish observance of Passover. It is also known as Holy Friday, Great Friday, Great and Holy Friday and Black Friday.

Holy Saturday, the Saturday of Holy Week, also known as Great and Holy Saturday, the Great Sabbath, Black Saturday, Hallelujah Saturday, Glorious Saturday or Easter Eve and called Joyous Saturday or the Saturday of Light among Coptic Christians, is the day after Good Friday. It is the day before Easter and the last day of Holy Week in which Christians prepare for Easter. It commemorates the day that Jesus Christ’s body lay in the tomb and the Harrowing of Hell.

Easter is a religious holiday that commemorates the resurrection of Jesus Christ after his death by crucifixion. For Christians, Easter is a day of religious services and family gatherings.

Easter Day is a popular day for attending church, getting together for a big family meal, and staging an Easter egg hunt. It is also a good time for people to decorate Easter eggs, join in Easter craft contests and to indulge in holiday recipes, such as mustard-crusted lamb and the Easter basket cake.

Happy Easter to all our readers.
