A man was fined by MRC des Collines police after he emptied some contents of his septic tank on a Quyon street corner in the evening hours of Feb. 15.
The incident occurred at roughly 10:30 p.m. when a nearby resident called the des Collines police after discovering that the man, a 56 year-old, had leaked the tank into . . .
the roadside ditch and its contents had reached the road itself, according to a police Facebook post.
Police intervened with the man after arriving on scene and issued a $499 ticket as per a municipal bylaw. The Municipality of Pontiac (MoP) was notified and the municipality in turn notified the provincial Ministry of Environment.
MoP assistant director general Geneviève Latulippe informed The Equity in an email that the man could be subject to future fines.
“If, after investigation by the planning department, the septic system does not conform with the regulation respecting waste water disposal systems for isolated dwellings act, the owner shall repair or change the septic system,” she wrote, adding that if he does not, future fines could follow.
She also wrote that the municipality would complete a further inspection in the spring once the ground thaws.
Information on the name of the street and the man’s explanation for dumping the tank is currently confidential as it is evidence, according to police spokesperson Sgt. Martin Fournel.
