Tragedy has struck the community of Chapeau and the surrounding areas on Friday night, as we learned that a young man’s snowmobile went through the ice on the Ottawa River. He was returning from ice fishing and he has not been found. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends. We pray that God gives them courage and strength during this most difficult time.

We were saddened to hear of . . .

the passing of Jerome Sallafranque of Chapeau. He was the beloved husband of Francoise (nee Lair). Jerome had served at one time as councillor and as Mayor of Allumette Island West.

He was a real community builder and served on many committees and received many recognitions for his good work. Jerome had great faith and was recognized by Pope Francis for his involvement with the church, diocese and community for which he received the medal Bene Mereti. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this sad time.

Warm birthday wishes are extended to Gerard Pharand who is celebrating his birthday today.

Birthday wishes and love are extended to my sister-in-law Gail Perry of Pembroke, Ont. who is celebrating her birthday on Feb. 20. Enjoy your special day Gail.

Birthday wishes and love are extended to my dear neighbour and friend, Betty Grieve, who is celebrating her birthday on Feb. 22. Enjoy your special day Betty.
