We are now well into the new year. My New Year’s resolution is not to allow myself to be overwhelmed by the negative events and situations of 2020. What a ride! Events in the US have been frightening and certainly cause for alarm. Political turmoil, an attempted insurrection of the government and an out of control pandemic that has claimed the lives of more than 400,000 American citizens.
We Canadians have also been struggling with COVID-19 and the harmful effects of the pandemic. The good news is that . . .
several effective vaccines have been developed and tested. The not so good news is that the pharmaceutical industries are having difficulties manufacturing enough vaccines to vaccinate the global population. Make no mistake, it will be necessary to vaccinate everyone, everywhere, if we hope to stop the spread of COVID-19 and any new variants of this virus that may arise. In the meantime, we are left with temporary solutions to slow the spread: social distancing, hand washing, mask wearing in public places where two meter separation can not be maintained, lockdowns and curfews. These are the only effective weapons we have at the moment. Fortunately, we have been seeing success in the past few weeks, as the very scary infection rates have slowly edged downward.
Our focus now should be to continue to flatten that curve of infections until vaccines finally come into full use. As the longer days at the end of January start to feel more hopeful and sunny, let’s keep up the good fight and do our part to defeat COVID-19.

This past weekend the temperature really dipped down. This is normal temperatures for this time of the year. At least it was bright and sunny.
A cheery hello to the shut ins and to all those who are finding the lock down difficult. Have a good and safe week everyone.
