Our village is mourning the loss of a beloved pillar of the community. Mae McCann passed away on Dec. 1. For over 40 years, Mae ran McCann’s Chips in Quyon, a business she started with her husband Ervin. Her friendly face and delicious fries were a fixture on the main street of town for decades. The little chip stand put Quyon on the map, as people came from far and wide to visit Mae’s famous establishment. Mae was a kind and giving person, always ready for a chat and making everyone feel welcome. As a young woman growing up in this community I have looked up to Mae as a role model. We will miss her dearly. All of our love and prayers are with the McCann and Foran families and Mae’s many friends at this sad time.

Congratulations to Tracey (McColgan) and Ryan Conners on . . .

the safe arrival of their baby boy. Landen Don was born on Dec. 3. He is a little brother for Kinley. Best wishes to the whole family with their little bundle of blue.

Birthday wishes are going out to Amelia Dowe who is turning three on Dec. 14. We are sending big birthday wishes to my niece, Danica Provost, as she turns 12 on Dec. 15. Happy birthday to Jenna Laframboise also on Dec. 15. Happy days to everyone celebrating this week.

We had some very exciting news with our Quyon Pastoral Charge Christmas Facebook Auction last week. As I mentioned in my column last week, the auction wrapped on Nov. 29 and had made over $8,800. Then on Giving Tuesday which is Dec. 1, an anonymous donor made a donation that took our final total to $10,000. We are so humbled and very thankful for this generous community. A big thank you to all for the amazing support.

Our thoughts are also with the family of David Foran who passed away on Dec. 5. He was a nephew of Mae’s and lived in British Columbia. Our thoughts are with his brother Donald, sister Margaret Ann, wife Margo and all of his loved ones.
