Last Friday, the team at Mountainview Turf gathered for an outdoor, socially-distanced little Christmas celebration to mark yet another great season. During the gathering, presentations were made to honour Francois Miljour’s 20 years of service and 35 years for Wayne Ramsay. Each employee was sent home with drinks and a delicious turkey dinner for two, catered by Pine Lodge. In turn, the team made a donation to . . .

the Beechgrove Rink Restoration Project in honour of the Hamilton family. While it may not be the Christmas party we are used to it was nice to have a small COVID safe celebration to mark a successful season during a difficult year.

On Sunday evening, the Quyon Pastoral Charge’s Christmas.

Facebook Auction came to a close and it was a huge success. Due to the fact that we couldn’t hold the annual Christmas House Tour this year we decided to have the auction as a fundraiser instead. The support from the entire community was overwhelming, with over 80 items and services generously donated by local families and businesses. The auction raised over $8,800 for the church.

Simply amazing. Many thanks to all who contributed and to those who kept the bidding wars going over the past few weeks. The pandemic has been tough on little churches like ours which rely on fundraising. We are truly blessed to live in such a generous and giving community.

Congratulations to Karen Stanley. She not only celebrated her birthday last Friday but she also marked the occasion of her retirement. Put your feet up and enjoy it, Karen.

A local woman is giving thanks for this kind and caring community we live in. Last week during one of the snowy days, she had the misfortune of falling in her laneway and was unable to get up. Two passers-by stopped to help her up and make sure she was okay. A big thank you goes out to them for taking the time to stop and rescue her. Thankfully she was not badly hurt. Stories like this make me feel so grateful we live in a village with such caring people.

Birthday wishes are going out to Thomas Hamilton who is turning three on Dec. 2, to Layndyn Prest on Dec. 4 and to Dustin Young on Dec. 5. Happy first birthday to Owen Johnston, celebrating on Dec. 5. We also have birthday wishes going out to Cash Watson and Bucky Fleck on Dec. 6, and to Willow Brownlee and Tessa Young on Dec. 7. Blessings to everyone celebrating this week.

As we enter the Christmas season still under restrictions due to COVID-19, many of our usual holiday celebrations are unable to happen this year, including the annual Santa Claus Parade. However, the Quyon Community Day Committee and the Municipality of Pontiac are encouraging local residents to show their Christmas spirit by “Lighting Up the Village.” They will be decorating the new Community Centre and park in Quyon and are inviting everyone to join in by decking the halls to the max.

The MoP will be judging the displays throughout the entire municipality and awarding gift sets to the winners. You can see their Facebook page for all of the details. Get in the spirit and start decorating folks. Let’s make this a special Christmas despite the pandemic.
