The Pontiac Community Players are finally airing a new radio show that they have had planned for the last year on Valley Heritage Radio (98.7 FM).

The first episode of Fresh Eggs will be premiering on Nov. 16 at 12:15 p.m. and will be broadcast again at 5:45 p.m. It is a six-episode show which will be . . .

broadcast over two weeks, every Monday, Wednesday and Friday until Nov. 27 at the same two times slots.

Fresh Eggs is a “rural sitcom-type comedy,” as writer and PCP president Greg Graham said. It follows city-slickers James and Jenny as they move to a farm in the Ottawa Valley and find out “life ain’t all it’s cracked up to be.”

“They decide to give up their city life to move out to the countryside. Jenny’s going to try to commute to her job in the city and James is going to try starting a farm,” Graham said. “One of the very first ventures they try is raising chickens for eggs. So of course they’re selling fresh eggs but they themselves are fresh eggs, a little bit naive. But they mean well.”

Graham has worked on a few scripts before, but this is the first time he’s written a full radio show. The idea stemmed from the annual Christmas radio shows the group produces as well as Graham’s personal experience of moving from the city back to the Pontiac with his wife. Production began in late 2019 but was delayed due to the pandemic. Now Graham says they’re finally ready to broadcast.

“I wanted to make something that would be fun for everyone to listen to and kind of in the vein of those older stories where before we’d sit down and watch YouTube or Netflix, people would sit around the radio. And I thought that would be a great way to tell a story very particular to us.”

He was happy with how enthusiastic everyone involved was, from the radio station to the actors who volunteered to make the production happen. He hopes Pontiacers will tune in and enjoy the show.

“I’m hoping people will listen to it and I’m hoping it’ll lead to giving us more opportunities to tell local stories.”
