SHAWVILLE Nov. 5, 2020
The Shawville Lions Club made donations to two local community initiatives on Nov. 5, as they have for several years.
The club presented a cheque for $750 to the Blessed Cupboard Food Bank and another for $500 to the Pontiac Snowsuit Fund. The groups were represented by . . .
Mike Rusenstrom and Carole Valin respectively.
Rusenstrom said that the food bank, which operates out of Bethel Pentecostal Church in Shawville, typically gives out around 80 Christmas food baskets to families in need and added that their numbers were up slightly this year. He said that instead of the recipients dropping by the church to pick up their baskets as usual, the food would have to be delivered with the help of some volunteers.
Distribution of the hampers traditionally takes place on the first Friday of December. Applications need to be submitted by Dec. 1, either through an online form on the church’s website or by phone at 819-647-2555.
Valin said that she serves as the local representative for the Snowsuit Fund, which is organized through the Maison de Famille in Fort Coulonge. She said that the number of snowsuits distributed by the organization varies depending on the weather.
