Though the Bristol Dryland dog race will not be taking place this year, organizer Denis Rozon is aiming to have a modified event take place in January.
Rozon said that the new date would be Jan. 23 – 24, and the event would be a combination of . . .
dogsledding and events that usually take place on a dirt track. Cani-cross, where competitors run behind their pooch, will take place, as well as bikejoring, a competition where racers ride a bicycle while roped to their dog. He said they will use “fat bikes” with wide tires to handle riding on the snow.
The scooter class that they typically race on the dirt track will not carry over, as the tires are too small to deal with snow, and instead, Rozon said they would having a one dog sled class instead.
He added that this year, the competition would likely be limited to Canadians, as the race usually draws competitors from Europe and the United States.
