Pontiac’s own Michaela Cahill has sung her way to the final round of La Voix. The singer from Fort Coulonge performed live on Oct. 11 against her teammate on Team Marc to win over the audience’s vote. She sang a swanky rendition of Les uns contre les autres by Luc Plamondon and Michel Berger and claimed a spot in the finale with . . .
61 per cent of the vote.
“It went awesome last night,” Cahill said. “Especially when you’re singing in a language that’s not your first language, it’s a little more intimidating. But I think it went super, super well. I just kind of let go, whatever comes out comes out. I worked really hard and it went awesome.”
Making it to the finals was Cahill’s ultimate goal, and to win it all would be a dream come true. While she aimed to remain calm and “in her zen” when the results were revealed, she could barely contain her happiness.
“It’s exactly where I wanted to be. That was the main goal, to get to the finals. Whatever happens, happens after that,” Cahill said excitedly. “I made it to the finals, I’m really happy. I try not to let my emotions get the best of me.”
She saved the celebration for her return to Fort Coulonge, where she reunited with her family in time for Thanksgiving. The true reward, Cahill said, is celebrating with her girls.
This is the first year that the finale of La Voix has featured an all female cast, something Cahill is proud of being a part of, though she acknowledges the competition is going to be challenging.
“It’s going to be a tough one, there’s lots of stuff going on. Not sure how much sleep I’m going to get but it’ll definitely be intense.”
The night also included a performance by Cahill with teammate Jason Valentino, coach Marc Dupré, and singer Louis-Jean Cormier, whom Cahill described as talented and impressive, yet laid back and fun.
In the end, Cahill reiterated how thankful she is for all the support she has received, not just from the Pontiac, but from everyone who voted.
“I want everybody from here to Toronto to Nova Scotia, everywhere in Quebec and Canada who voted to know that I’m over the moon. I appreciate every single vote that came in. I just want to let everyone know how grateful I am for all the love and support.”
The finale will be live on Sunday, Oct. 18.
