The Pontiac Legion Branch 162 in Campbell’s Bay dispersed funds raised during their poppy campaign to a host of local causes on Oct. 1. President Ron Woodstock told the assembled representatives that the Legion supports not only veterans, but projects for the community at large. He said that they donate every year to help with . . .
the upkeep of local cemeteries, among other causes.
He went on to explain that the local Legion hall is always looking for more members and which, again, don’t have to be veterans, but only need to be approved by the board.
Woodstock said he hoped the donations would jog people’s memories in the lead up to Remembrance Day on Nov. 11.
Colleen Larivière, representing St. Joseph’s Manor, said that the donation was much appreciated.
“Thank you very much, it’s been a slow year for fundraising,” she said. “It will go to good use.”
The funds were distributed as follows: $1,500 each to Residence Meilleur and St. Joseph’s Manor, $500 each to the 653 Champlain Squadron Air Cadets, Waltham resident Lynn Lajoie and university student Patricia Godin, and $250 each to the St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Cemetery, the Bryson United Church cemetery, the Norman United Church Cemetery and the Bryson Anglican Cemetery.
