The Municipality of Waltham has decided to reintroduce a camera to the chemin Donlan transfer site after agreeing during their August council meeting that people who were . . .
throwing their garbage in the recycling bin needed to be held accountable.
“We had a problem like that maybe five years ago, we put up the camera and we [saw] enough people with the camera and with their garbage,” Waltham Director General Fern Roy said. “With the proof, the police went and told the people not to do that anymore, and it solved the problem for five years.”
An offender can be penalized by a $1,000 fine, but Roy said that since the municipality put up the camera the week after the Aug. 11 meeting, there have been no offenders.
He said that they strongly believe the people dumping garbage are from outside of Waltham due to the house-to-house pickup that the municipality does for residents’ recycling and garbage.
