A man in his pickup truck hydroplaned and ended up in a ditch on Sept. 29 on Hwy. 148, requiring a passerby to get out and assist him.
Municipality of Pontiac Fire Chief Kevin Mansey said that . . .
a team of several firefighters were dispatched to the site of the incident as a precaution, arriving after the man had already been helped by a driver of a tractor-trailer. There were no injuries because of the spin-out.
“There was an F-150 that lost control, he was parked on his driver’s door,” Mansey said. “He was trapped in the vehicle, he tried to get out passenger side, but he was there for a few minutes until the trucker stopped, held the door for him and helped him get out.”
According to Mansey, the driver lost control and spun several times before going into the ditch, near the Luskville Town Hall.
Hydroplaning on wet roads typically happens when a tire’s tread is worn out and water is not being dispersed properly under the wheels, Mansey explained.
An MRC des Collines police officer was on scene to assist with traffic.
