MRC Pontiac has announced that they are calling for art project submissions as they look to build upon the local artist community.

The MRC is seeking . . .

“art works of a grand quality, and capable of being exposed outside year-round, in any temperature and under all weather conditions,” according to an email from Sabrina Ayres, economic development officer for the MRC.

The call for submissions represents phase one of the arts component of the cultural fund. The MRC’s cultural fund is $41,000, and it has been put aside since 2018.

Those who might submit these projects could range from municipalities, non-profit organizations and cooperatives, public schools, libraries and early childhood centres. Artists and artisans who wish to submit projects must be in partnership with any of the above organizations.

“Our immediate goal is to encourage and support our local artist community,” Ayres said in the email. “We want to help establish a stronger connection between the municipalities and the cultural community. Our long-term end game is to establish the Pontiac as a cultural destination.”

The deadline for any of these art submissions to be reviewed by the MRC is Aug. 6.
