Ecofest, an event held every year at L’Isle-aux-Allumettes, brought its events online this year amid . . .
enforced physical distancing practices.
This included several different activities.
For the Adopt a Road program, families and other members of the community were asked to clean up the island, picking up litter from the ditches.
The prizes for this event were a compost digester, won by Ian Johnson, a Coleman Extreme wheeled cooler, won by Paul Bertrand and a Simoniz 1900-PSI electric pressure washer, won by Lorraine Mainville.
In the Scraps to Sculpture contest, local students used household scraps and recycled materials to build ornaments for the garden.
The winners of this event were Tyson Lepine, Avery Fleury, Rosalie Burnett and Marissa Gagnon.
The municipality also hosted the online planting tutorial Learning to Grow.
In order to follow the tutorial from home, a record-breaking number of participants were given vegetables seedlings, which were grown by Jonathan Harkins of the local Tree Hill Farm.
Trish Murphy with Beaux Arbres Native Plants, in Bristol, will be giving Gardening for butterflies and native plants, online.
Virtual activities are expected to continue throughout the summer and participants can share their photos taken at the events on Ecofest’s social media page facebook.com/pg/islandecofest for the opportunity to be featured as the grower of the month.
