Over 100 people gathered at the Grand Calumet Island Municipal Hall on Sunday, as the St. Anne’s . . .

Church’s Catholic Women’s League (CWL) hosted it’s 14th annual Christmas brunch.

According to CWL President Joan Derouin, the event was a fundraiser for the organization and that the funds raised will be used to subsidize activities for local seniors.

The event boasted 12 vendors from the region, most of whom were local artists, showing off all sorts of masterpieces and homemade goods.

“Each one has their own special craft,” she said.

From large oil paintings by Ryan Lamothe to Jeanne McTiernan’s stained glass artwork, the event reflected the Pontiac’s wide scope of artistic talent while giving the community a chance to support their work.

Plus, with a group of volunteers cooking in the kitchen in the basement, attendees were invited to indulge on a delicious, greasy brunch with eggs, bacon and roasted beans galore.

For Derouin, the event is always one that brings her great pride because year after year it brings a smile to faces in the community and without them, their work would be a lot more difficult.

“It’s something that the community enjoys,” she said. “The main thing is the support of our church from the community.”

Usually, the event raises around $2,000 for the St. Anne’s Church CWL.
