A gaggle of children and their parents gathered at the TCRA Hall in Ladysmith on Saturday for a day of organized activities and community spirit.

Organized by councillors Jammie-Lee Thrun and Megane Bretzlaff along with members of the TCRA, the day featured everything from a chili cookoff, to snowshoeing and music.

“Because it’s so cold, we have a lot of indoor games,” Thrun said, gesturing around the hall at the start of the day. “We made a tic tac toe station, bowling, hockey.”

For the more hearty residents, the skating rink was open and there were snowshoes available for use.

Thrun said that she and Bretzlaff have planned events together in the past.

“We work well together so it’s quite nice,” she said. “It’s a little different this year, she just had her second baby who was just born and my first baby was just born so it’s a little more work.”

Fellow councillor Robert Wills was also in attendance, leading a jam session with the children.

Thrun said despite the added complications there were plenty of helping hands to lighten the load.

“Everyone volunteers around here,” she said. “You couldn’t ask for a better community. It’s awesome.”

The winner of the chili contest was Fran Erfle.

Despite the chilly weather, Emma and Ava Havlin enjoy a skate at the TCRA rink on Saturday.
