Weekend results from minor hockey Comets, Lions

Novice Fort-Coulonge Comets
Last week started with a tie on Wednesday night against a Petawawa team 8-8.
On Saturday, the team participated in a tournament in Deep River, Ont. The first game was played against Barry’s Bay for a win of 13-1. The second game was a victory with a score of 14-1 against Kanata. The final game was played against Petawawa for the A Championship position which we won 7-1.
After the big tournament on Sunday the kids put on their skates again to beat Pembroke 6-3.

The Lions roared into this weekend’s tournament on Friday afternoon with a 6-2 win over the Casselman Vikings with a goal each by Yanni Newberry, Olivier Maurier and Walker Tremblay as well as a hat trick from Lucas Ethier.
Saturday morning, they played the Carleton Place Kings and came out on top again 6-0 with points from Yanni Newberry, Ewan Smith and two each from Lucas Ethier and William Oliveira.
Saturday afternoon ended in a 2-0 victory agains the Lakeshore Lions with goals by Fisher Davis and Yanni Newberry. They defeated the Gatineau Cougars 3-0 in a nail biting semi-final game on Sunday afternoon after Lucas Ethier scored two and Yanni Newberry took advantage of the empty net with seconds to spare.
In the final heart stopping game, William Oliveira tied it up in the second and Yanni Newberry finished off the very close game in the third. The Lions left it all on the ice and defeated South Stormont Selects 2-1 to walk away with the gold.
A special shout out to Mason and Ashtyn for important assists this weekend and to our amazing coaches and manager.

Pontiac Lions Novice C
Saturday’s game ended in a big 8-1 win for the Lions against the Aylmer Pioneers with goals in the first period from Parker Alexander, Iyla Smith, Quinton Smith and a hat trick from Ben Richardson.
Defender Stefania George scored another in the second period and Sterling Davis snuck in the last goal with seconds left in the third.
Sunday’s game against the Gatineau Cougars remained scoreless. The Lions worked hard until the very last whistle while Felix Vereyken kept them in the game with some great saves.
A special shoutout to Trevor Findlay for coming out on Sunday and Ethan Lafleur for winning some important face-offs in Saturday’s game.

Eat, sleep, hockey, repeat was the motto for the Pontiac Lions Novice B this weekend as they played three games in total.
On Saturday, sadly they lost both their games in Shawville but made an amazing come back in Val-des-mots winning 6-5. Brady Kilroy, Tristan Queale and Warren Sally each scored two goals that brought the team to victory! Go Lions go!
