The Otter Lake R.A. held a finale to their summer programming with an awards dinner at Mickey Creek Golf Course on Sunday afternoon.
President Shane Presley explained that about 40 children from the area participate in both soccer and baseball each year, with about five volunteer coaches. Following a dinner of pizza and wings, the group recognized the volunteer coaches for all their hard work and dedication to their young players.
It was announced that long-time coach Dan Ladouceur would be retiring after this season and he was thanked for his contribution to local youth sports.
“If it weren’t for the coaches, none of this would be possible,” Presley said.
Prior to the dinner, the kids got the chance to knock some golf balls around on the driving range. Presley said that this was the first time they had hosted the event at Mickey Creek, adding that it was a good way to expose the youth to a new activity.
