SHAWVILLE Sept. 16, 2018
Members of the Pontiac Agricultural Society held their Shawville Fair Car Rally and volunteer appreciation night Sunday at the fairgrounds.
Organizer Mavis Hanna explained that the event was not only a vehicle-based scavenger hunt, but a mixed bag of skill-testing challenges.
“This is a thank-you to the community that supports us on a regular basis,” she said. “We were giving out invitations at the fair to any volunteers, sponsors, and exhibitors, basically saying, come on back, have a day with us and let’s have some fun.”
While the 12 teams waited to depart on the course, which meandered up to Thorne Lake and looped back, they got the chance to try their hand at navigating the tractor obstacle course.
Once they returned, a row of slow-cookers simmering full of chilli awaited their judgment.
The team from Bristol Auto, made up of Riley MacGregor, Nathan Graham and Jon Taylor ended up taking first in the car rally, while Dorothy, Tin-man and the gang (Sonia Campbell, Judy Stephens, September Hamilton and Connie Wilbee) won the costume contest.
