On Sunday afternoon, cowpokes of all ages gathered at the R.S. Ranch in Mansfield to ride through obstacles and raise money for diabetes research.
Carol Malony of Otter Lake has been organizing the annual Cowboy Challenge for the past four years. She started the event because she wanted to get involved after her daughter, Natasha Harris, was diagnosed with type one diabetes.
There were 19 riders from across the Pontiac and Ottawa Valley that participated in the event, divided among three categories.
Maloney explained that the rider’s are timed as they negotiate a series of obstacles meant to test specific skills, like reaching down to lift gates or navigate tight corners.
How well they navigate each contributes to the overall score in addtion to the time.
Maloney stressed that she was grateful for the generous sponsors and support she had recieved from the community. In total the event raised $735.
Results were as follows:
Youth: First – Hope Morrissette, Second – Vanessa Vadineau, Third – Jory Boulanger
Beginner: First – Sophie Morin, Second – Lidia Laplante, Third – Katrina Dubeau
Intermediate: First – Sheila Toll, Second – Suzie Carrier
