Last Tuesday, the funeral for Rev. Fred Haak was held in the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Eganville, Ont. There was a very large attendance with about 20 ministers from various churches. Also in attendance was Bishop Rev. Michael Pryse. Attending from Ladysmith were Roy Bretzlaff, Stewart Schwartz and David Pasch, as far as I know. My sister Beulah Grife and her daughter Shelley Travias attended from Rankin, Ont. and Sandy Krose from Arnprior, Ont.
This weekend is Easter and we are getting ready for the long weekend. My sister Beulah Grife will be spending it with us. We are planning on attending the pancake supper at the Zion Lutheran Church at Schwartz on Saturday evening. Check the classified ad in the coming events for the details.
The church service for Easter is Friday at 10 a.m. in Ladysmith at St. John’s Lutheran Church and Zion at Schwartz is on Sunday at 10 a.m. Hopefully we will have nice weather all weekend.

The past week was quite cold slowing down the maple trees for the sap to run. This week is supposed to be warmer but there may be rain on Wednesday. It should be good for the sap to run, if you have lids for your cans. When we used to make maple syrup we saved a lot of sap by having lids on the cans.
Happy birthday to Lorne Campeau on March 29, to Michaela Durocher on March 27, to Lloyd Kluke on April 1, to Zabrena Tubman and Kim Hobbs who both celebrate April 2 and to Brock Sharpe on April 3.
Last Saturday Allison Corrigan visited Everet Arturas in Vankleek Hill, Ont. Evert is just recovering from knee replacement surgery on Feb. 20 and is doing well. Allison also went to Hawkesbury the same day and on the way he noticed that all the rivers are open. It looks like here at Ladysmith it will be a while until the lakes will be open. The nights are still quite cold. Allison was saying that Sunday morning the temperature was minus 9 degrees Celsius and it was minus 18 degrees Celsius Saturday morning.
On April 12, there will be a pancake supper at the Orange Lodge Hall in Shawville at 114 Centre St. Check out the ad in the coming events for more details.
Last Wednesday my husband Tom had his yearly appointment at the Civic Hospital to have an ultrasound on his neck. He has over 50 per cent blockages in the arteries and Dr. Jetta is keeping an eye on them as they would rather not operate. So far they are staying around the same but he has to watch his diet.
Lynn Kluke is waiting to be called for her knee surgery and so is Bev Murray. It will be nice for them to have it before summer.
On the way to Shawville last Friday, just about two miles out of Ladysmith we saw a bald eagle fly up from the ditch. Gerald Mielke was telling us that his cousin, Jason Wiggins was driving towards Ladysmith from Shawville and there were some turkeys beside the road and he actually saw an eagle swoop down and kill a turkey. There seems to be more eagle sightings around here lately.
Visiting recently when my sister Beulah was here was Sharron Hodgins. We had a nice visit.
I wish everyone a very happy Easter weekend and drive carefully.
