Dear Editor,
Last Wednesday afternoon, we noticed our beloved black lab Mia was not well. Even the word walk meant nothing which was very unusual as it normally starts a series of barking and begging. By evening she was having trouble walking and lifting her head. She would not eat or drink, could barely walk and her head hung very low.
We did not know what was happening and of course you think the worse. She is almost ten years old so we thought maybe it was a heart attack or stroke.
Thursday morning, I called the veterinary clinic in Shawville and explained my situation. The receptionist although very sympathetic explained how they were totally booked for the day. She must have detected the anguish in my voice as she told me to hang on. After a few minutes she came back and said, “have her here for 11:30 and be patient.”
We took her in and Dr. Jong did a work up, bloodwork etc., and determined it was an attack of pancreatitis which she had suffered once before. So with medication and strict diet for awhile she will be fine. The strict diet she does not like.
The point of my story is that Dr. Jong and her staff went beyond to make a full day even fuller for themselves when they felt the distress we were experiencing. I am so thankful to them. Some of you might think it’s just a dog, to us it is more.
Maybe we don’t recognize the compassion that is out there right here around us. Thanks Dr. Jong, you are amazing.
