Here we are in 2018. I trust that everyone enjoyed a wonderful Christmas season. I certainly did. My only complaint is that it flew by too quickly. I had a fabulous festive week spending time with family and friends, celebrating a blessed Christmas.
The Quyon curling gang celebrated the season with the annual Christmas Hot Shots skills competition and party on Dec. 21 at the Shawville Curling Club. Leigh Dolan was the winner for the ladies and Ray Johnston was the winner on the men’s side. Two 50/50 draws were held, with lucky winners Vikki Stanley and Jaime Christie-Stewart each taking home a pot of $85. We also played the saran wrap ball game which brought lots of laughs and fun. It was a great evening, thanks to Glen Leach and his helpers for organizing it.

Warmest best wishes go out to Betty and Okie Gordon on reaching their 55th wedding anniversary on Dec. 28. Congratulations with love from Lothar and Myrna Mischke, Janet Trudeau and Bruce and Suzanne Bradley.
Birthday wishes are going out to Eric Provost and Priscilla Kluke-Brownlee, both celebrating on Jan. 2. Happy birthday also to Sherri-Lynn Foran on Jan. 3, Stephanie Provost on Jan. 4, Kelsey Stanley on Jan. 5, Kyle Stanley on Jan. 6 and Evan Prest on Jan. 7. Best wishes to everyone celebrating this week.
We sure have been going through a deep freeze lately, which is difficult for many, but it sure does help with the preparation of the outdoor rinks in our area. I understand most of the rinks are now open with Quyon’s rink officially opening on New Year’s Eve. Big thanks to David Scully for all his hard work in getting it ready. The children in town sure do enjoy it.
A reminder that the Quyon Pastoral Charge will resume services this Sunday at Wesley United Church in Beechgrove at 10:30 a.m.
I hear the party on New Year’s Eve at the Quyon Legion was another great success. Everyone had a terrific time ringing in the New Year, while enjoying champagne, a photo booth, party favours, and dancing to the music of the band Flashback. It was a fantastic night.
I hope everyone is keeping warm and having a great 2018 so far. Happy New Year to all.
