QUYON Dec. 9, 2017
Kris Kringle rolled through Quyon at noon on Saturday, escorted by his parade of firefighters and local organizations, as families waited eagerly at the roadside to catch a glimpse of the big man in red.
Running from St. Mary’s Parish up to rue de Clarendon and across to Onslow Elementary School, the parade drew quite the crowd as it rolled through town and attracted one float too big to make the pivot in the route.
While the firefighters led the pack, with wailing sirens and lights flashing as candy was handed out, floats of various designs followed after. Many were adorned with Christmas trees and featured kids and adults, smiling as they waved and tossed candy to their community.
A brief pause occurred after the firetrucks turned onto rue de Clarendon, as the float for the annual tractor pull made its entrance. Too tight a turn for the vehicle, joining at that point still left them with a majority of the route to take part in.
A gingerbread house, horse riders and lots more candy rounded out the middle, before old St. Nick made his appearance. Leaving the reindeer to get some rest before their big trip, he enlisted the help of locals to pull his sleigh behind their truck, but the kids waiting for Santa’s waves didn’t seem to mind that at all.
Everyone was invited for a meet and greet with Santa at the elementary school’s auditorium, a quick lunch, and trophies for best float entries. The day’s parade and activities were put on by the Quyon Lions and Lionettes.
