To all my faithful readers, please excuse the error from my last week’s column. It seems that I accidentally attached an old file to my social notes. My apologies for any confusion.
The Waltham Fire Department is happy to welcome its newly qualified Fire Fighter One graduates to its regular roster. No longer probationary members, the following firefighter students were informed by Ecole Nationale that they have successfully completed all the required courses and exams as of November 2017. Gisele Chartrand, Kevin Pilon, Scott Kelly, Jason Pilon, Larry Perry. Also upgrading their certifications in the courses of (self rescue and hazardous materials operations) are: Michelle Vanasse and Michel Gauthier. Congratulations on all the hard work and dedication over the past two and a half years of study and practical training. The citizens of Waltham are indeed fortunate to increase its fire department membership with such highly qualified and dedicated individuals.
Our heartfelt, sympathy, thoughts and prayers are with the Smiley family of Chapeau in the recent passing of Lillian Smiley (nee Béchamp) of Chapeau. She was the beloved wife of the late Yvan Smiley.
On Saturday evening, the annual Christmas supper was held at the Waltham Town Hall. This traditional Waltham event was very well attended. Neighbours and friends chatted, reminisced and renewed the bonds of friendship. Mayor David Rochon welcomed everyone. Father Real Ouellette said grace. Everyone enjoyed a tasty turkey supper with all the trimmings and tasty desserts.
Those celebrating a milestone birthday this year were: Jean Pelletier who celebrated his 85th birthday, George Bayne celebrated his 80th and Bernard (Buddy Chassie) celebrated his 80th. They each received a plaque although Jean Pelletier and George Bayne were unable to attend. Two local hero awards were presented, one went to Theresa Harkins for her dedication and work in the R. A. and for organizing the Wednesday euchre card nights. The other one went to Diane Mcknight also for her dedication and hard work in the R.A. for organizing the Wednesday night euchre card nights and also for her dedication to Our Lady’s Helping Hands. They each received a plaque. Mayor David Rochon extended Merry Christmas and a safe and Happy New year to all. The supper was hosted by the members of the Waltham Recreation Association and assisted by many of the local youth, who served tables and helped with the clean up. A wonderful evening was enjoyed by all.
Kayla Soucie-Moreau is celebrating her birthday Dec. 7 and Brenda Bertrand on Dec. 8. All the best is wished to you both and we hope that you enjoy your special day. Best wishes to all others who are celebrating birthdays and anniversaries this coming week.
