Dear Sir,
I am writing because your leader Justin Trudeau is raising taxes on middle-class farmers and local businesses and you seem dead-set on remaining silent.
What do these tax increases mean? If you’re a young person looking for your first job, you might have fewer local businesses that can afford to hire you. If you’re a farmer, it may be more complicated and expensive to pass your farm down to your kids. If you’re an entrepreneur, it may be harder to save for your retirement. If you need a family doctor, it might become harder to find one.
The new Trudeau taxes will mean up to a 73 per cent tax on investments by some small businesses and farmers. Big publicly-traded multi-national businesses with billionaire CEOs will not pay a penny more. How is this fair to people in the Pontiac?
Your job is to stand up for the Pontiac, even if it means disagreeing with your own party. Several Liberal MPs have spoken out against these tax increases, but you remain silent.
People will recall that the Liberal nomination for Pontiac was competitive. It is an absolute shame that another Pontiac Liberal didn’t win that race. I know for a fact that the folks that ran against you aren’t the types to stick their heads in the sand when the going gets tough.
You promised to lower small business taxes to nine per cent. You broke that promise and you haven’t done a proper consultation with people here to discuss your new tax increases.
Maybe with your $172,700 MP salary you don’t realize that employment can be hard to come by here. Farms and small businesses employ a large amount of the working population. These tax increases are going to hurt us more than it will hurt people living in the city.
Mr. Amos, it’s not too late to speak out. Tell Justin Trudeau that these tax increases are bad for the Pontiac.
I await your response.
