The Amphibious Challenge was a great success on Saturday at Fort William, Quebec. It was a perfect day weather-wise. Double the athletes from last year took part with a total of 54 registered. It was a team race with athletes coming from Quebec, Ontario, France, the US and Australia.
A tip of the hat to Raymond Lahay and his partner Melissa Paquet of Pembroke, Ont., who completed the short course, 15 km. Raymond and I worked together at Moncion’s a few years back. Congratulations to Frankie Hardwick of Fort William, Que. and Michelle Clarke who took first for the female short race.
Will Amos joined the athletes accompanying them up the beach for 2.5 kilometers and then swimming to the first island. Three of us were posted at the Meehan exit where the race continued on land and finished at the Fort Hotel. What an exciting time watching the the teams swimming across Meehan’s Bay.
The Dark Horse Lodge in Sheenboro, also had a wonderful turnout for their annual event. A large group of musicians entertained the crowd. This event was again covered by Heritage Radio. To complete the afternoon a lovely pot luck meal was served to all. The party continued late into the evening.
