Congratulations to Paige Young and Blair Laughlin on the birth of their first baby on July 31. They welcomed a boy and have named him Wyatt George. Great-Grandpa Bob was showing me a few photos last week, and he sure is a cutie. Wishing Paige and Blair all the best with their sweet little guy.
This past weekend, I joined my friend Sharon and her daughter Emma on a quick trip to Toronto to see the Blue Jays play on Friday night against the Seattle Mariners at the Rogers Centre. It was my biggest wish of the summer, to see a Jays game in person, and the experience did not disappoint. My favourite player, Brandon Valenzuela, was in the line-up, and my OG favourite, George Springer, hit a dinger for me (even though I missed it while waiting in a snack line!) The Blue Jays came away with a big 8-1 victory, and it was such a fun night. What a perfect way to cap off the summer.
After taking the train home on Saturday, it was a quick turn-around to get ready and head out again, as I was joining a group of friends at the Chelsea Pub to celebrate with Kerry-Lynn O’Connell at her bachelorette party. Kerry-Lynn and several of her ladies had spent the day being pampered at the Nordik Spa, then we all met up for a delicious dinner and drinks. It was a fantastic evening. Meanwhile, Stuart Meredith was being treated to a day of golf and dinner out with the guys at his bachelor party, and I’m sure they were having a blast as well. We are all looking forward to celebrating their big day in October. Congratulations to Kerry-Lynn and Stuart.
Big birthday wishes are going out to Raymond Fleury, as he celebrated his 90th birthday on Aug. 28. Happy first birthday to Elizabeth and James Poser, celebrating on Sept. 2. We also have birthday wishes going out to Therese Demell on the 2nd, to Wendy Provost on the 3rd, to Collins Fleck on the 6th, and to Glenna Campbell and Adam Johnston on the 7th. Best wishes to all who are celebrating this week.
Deepest sympathy is extended to the family of Roger Lance, as he passed away on Aug. 27 at the age of 71. Our thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones at this sad time.
I can’t believe that Shawville Fair and the Labour Day weekend is already upon us. It promises to be another wonderful Fair, with great musical acts, 4-H shows, craft exhibits, midway rides, food trucks, and so much more ahead of us. It is a highlight on the calendar every year, and I can’t wait.
On Sat., Sept. 12, the Quyon Community Association will be hosting Community Day, and it is shaping up to be an amazing day. There is a terrific line-up of musical entertainment starting at 1 pm., including Lorne Brady & friends, Barry Teevens & friends, Cal Cummings, Lorne Daley, The Saggy Bottom Boys, Larry Chevrier & Arnold Trudeau, Jessica Pearson & the East Wind, Valley Mountain, and Chicken Fried. Dinner will be served by the Quyon Lions Club, and there will also be the Wall of Wonderful, as well as games and activities in the park. On top of it all, Quyon Sports & Rec will be hosting a 3-pitch tournament on the same weekend, which only adds to the excitement. The icing on the cake is the fireworks display, which was postponed on Canada Day due to weather. The fireworks will now be held that night at dusk at the Quyon River. It is going to be an amazing day, and I am very much looking forward to it.
