As my byline states, my name is Conor Tomalty, and I am the newest addition to THE EQUITY’s masthead.

I was born and raised in Montreal, where I grew up rooting for the city’s sports teams. It is there that my interest in journalism, particularly sports journalism, blossomed. After a brief stint studying theatre and claiming to be a discount Jim Carrey at John Abbott College, I made my way to Concordia University, where I completed a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in Journalism and minoring in Irish Studies. 

Throughout my time at university, I served as a beat reporter and sports editor for one of the school papers, covering some of the most talented university sports teams U SPORTS has to offer. I got to witness the Concordia Stingers’ Women’s Hockey Team win Nationals multiple times and frequently covered the ever-improving women’s rugby team. 

My resumé is heavily focused on sports, but it is through  grassroots community reporting that I came to understand the importance of telling local stories. That is what brought me to the Pontiac. I am incredibly eager to serve this community and get to know the people who live here. Come say hello if you see me out and about. It is my understanding that Shawville takes great pride in being the birthplace of former Ottawa Senators’ general manager Bryan Murray, so I expect there to be numerous fans of Ottawa sports teams ready to poke fun at my allegiance to the Canadiens, Alouettes, Victoire, and so forth.
