Dear Editor,
I very much appreciated the submission from Colleen Fleming in the Oct. 18 edition of The Equity. I agree absolutely with the content and essence of her submission. I would, however, like to elaborate the following with regards to the “failed public forum”.

My campaign team and I began to communicate with the then potential candidates for mayor of Allumette Island on Sept. 12 , 2017 about the possibility of engaging in some type of public forum, debate or any other means of allowing access for the voters of Allumettes Island to the mayoral candidates live and at the same time. We continued with our efforts during the official nomination period and finally realized that as of end of day Oct. 6, the opposing candidates were not willing to engage in any such initiative for the benefit of the voters.
All this to say, I agree with Colleen that this would be a wonderful opportunity for the community at large to engage in the democratic process and my team and I put our best efforts forward to make it happen.
