The Parc Leslie annual fishing derby took over Leslie Lake on Saturday and saw 21 fish caught by the 46 participants.

New this year was the introduction of an adult division. While the tournament has traditionally been reserved for children, organizer and park employee Chantal Villeneuve noted that since many parents are already on the water with their kids, the event was expanded to include adults to encourage greater overall participation.

This year saw 14 adults partake.

Despite a grey start in the morning, the afternoon turned sunny and warm for the event, which Villeneuve said would have continued rain or shine.

In the kids’ division, first place went to Trey Debeau, who reeled in a 52.5 cm trout. He took home a fishing rod, a tackle box, and a set of lures.

Second place was awarded to Mac Dagenais, who caught a 44 cm bass and also received a fishing rod and tackle box.
Trevor Martelock won the adult division with a 45 cm bass. Trevor donated his prize, a fishing rod and lures, back to the derby.

Participants who did not already have a licence also went home with a free fishing licence. Each year, the park receives 25 fishing licences to distribute to those who participate in the tournament.

The tournament is organized by the park, with valuable support from volunteers Jacques and Kim Villeneuve, who have been lending a hand for the past three years.
