I’d like to give a big shout out to Sam Woermke and Farley Smith, as they and their Hull Olympiques teammates won the U13 BB Championship at the Tournoi Provincial de la Lièvre in Buckingham this past weekend. The final game was broadcast live on Facebook, and it was so nice to be able to watch Sam and Farley and their team win in dramatic fashion over the Des Moulins Grizzlys, taking home the 2-1 win in overtime. Way to go boys!

It was a big weekend for figure skaters from the Shawville club as well, as many of them competed in the Regional Finals STAR Competition in Gatineau. A special congratulations to Molly Dowe, Kenzie Smith, and all of their friends who competed and did an amazing job. Well done girls.

On Saturday evening, there was a great crowd out at the Shawville Curling Club to celebrate the 40th birthdays of my cousin, Kenny Fleck, and Pat Younge. It was great to visit with friends and celebrate with the birthday boys, enjoying great food and drinks. Unfortunately due to the curling rink being closed, there was no curling, but everyone had a fantastic time regardless. Cheers to Kenny and Pat!

Happy birthday to Matthew Alexander, as he celebrates on Jan. 31. Best wishes to all marking special occasions this week.

The Pontiac Arena Fund is hosting a Trivia Night in Quyon, coming up on Feb. 7, at the Quyon Community Centre. I have my team entered, and we are looking forward to an evening of friendly competition. For more information, or to enter a team, you can contact: pontiacarenafund@gmail.com.

As I had mentioned last week, the Quyon Lions Club monthly breakfast was sponsored by Dave Mayer and Monique Robert from Skating in the Forest in Wolf Lake, and not only did they sponsor the breakfast, but they also offered 10 free passes to skate or snowshoe at their beautiful winter haven. All who enjoyed the breakfast were invited to enter the draw, and I was one of the lucky winners! Many thanks to Dave, Monique, and the Quyon Lions for providing this opportunity. The next breakfast will be held on Mar. 15, as the Lions will be hosting the annual Pancake Supper in February. More details to come.

I hope everyone has been keeping warm while we have been enduring the coldest days of this winter thus far over the past week. As many of you know, I love the cozy hibernation days of winter, and have been enjoying working on puzzles, reading, crocheting, and watching Netflix when I have the opportunity to stay home. I know it isn’t an easy time of year for many people, so I hope you are finding ways to get through the cold and snow. With January coming to a close soon, brighter days are just around the corner.
