The Pontiac Agricultural Society (PAS) elected a new board of directors at their annual general meeting on Jan. 24, selecting a long-serving director as their new president.

Tyler McCann, the newly elected president of the organization said that he’s been with the PAS for a long time as the entertainment director and is proud to be heading up the board.

“I really like the fair. The fair was a big part of my life growing up,” he said. “I take the week of summer holidays to get ready for the fair and now that I have my kids doing it, it means that much more. I’ve always been pretty committed to making sure that it runs well and I’ve always enjoyed being on the fair board.”

“It’s been a really good team that I’ve had the opportunity to work with, so when the chance came along to try and lead that team and to help move the fair forward, I wanted to take it,” he continued.

The rest of the executive is as follows: 1st Vice President- Charleen Moore; Vice-Presidents – Kayla McCann, Erin Dittburner, Lisa Coles, and Mike Guitard; Secretary – Beth Knox; Financial Officer – Mavis Hanna.

McCann said that his role in booking entertainment will not change, but he will have additional duties overseeing other parts of the event. He added that the PAS would be expanding to add five new director positions.

“I still have a division that I’m responsible for, but effectively the president is actually the CEO of the fair, so I work very closely with the general manager,” he said. “I think the big part of it is supporting the other directors in what they’re doing because they’re the ones that know their divisions best, they’re the ones that are there every day. We’ve got a really good group of directors around the table. We’ve got full confidence that they can all do what needs to be done, I’m there to basically chair the meetings and help troubleshoot and offer support where it’s needed.”
