Over 50 kids attended the gingerbread house workshop at the Community Lodge in Shawville on Thursday.

It was a free event organized by the Parents’ Voice. Parents were asked to pre-register their children to ensure there was enough supplies, but as one of the committee members, Melissa Souliere, stated “We came prepared for more.” It was a good thing that they did because while there were 45 kids registered, a few more did show up.

The lodge was full of excited children, who were each given a cardboard template, in the shape of a house, that they could use to build the base of their gingerbread house.

Souliere, along with fellow committee member, Shelley Heaphy, had a table laid out with various other supplies needed, such as Fruit Loops, candy, candy canes, smarties and, of course, the icing.

Children were given a cup for their icing and a bowl for their supplies and were able to take what they wanted, some making a few trips up to the table.

The creative juices were flowing. Many completed their house quickly and had some of it eaten within the first hour. Others took their time, meticulously adding each detail with pride that they were able to create something that looked, and tasted, so incredible.

By the end of the evening there were many happy children, all hyped up on sugar nonetheless, but happy.

A sign of a very successful event.
