Dear Editor,
As the current Warden of the Pontiac and a candidate for re-election, I feel compelled to respond to a recent letter published in THE EQUITY that contains serious and misleading allegations about my conduct and leadership. The author of the letter has written several other letters with defamatory comments about me to the media and to the Council of Mayors. I have zero tolerance for malicious and unjustified harming of a person’s good reputation especially through social media.
I am disappointed and surprised that this letter was printed as to be clear, I have not received any notice from the CMQ and have never received any sanctions. Those statements are not only false, but they undermine the integrity of our democratic process.
Throughout my mandate, I have worked to represent all citizens of the Pontiac with fairness, transparency and dedication. I have always welcomed constructive criticism and open dialogue, and I believe strongly in the importance of respectful debate. However, I also believe that political discourse must be grounded in facts – not in speculation or personal attacks.
I urge all citizens to exercise caution when you hear inflammatory claims that lack evidence. It is character assassination. Dr. Billy Graham once said: “You can lose your riches and you have lost nothing. You can lose your health and you have lost something. If you lose your character, you have lost everything.”
Elections should be an opportunity to discuss ideas, share visions, and choose leadership based on values and commitment, not on misinformation and negative comments about others.
My goal remains unchanged: to continue building a united, thriving Pontiac region where every voice matters. If re-elected, I will further strengthen transparency, improve public communications, and foster collaboration across all municipalities.
Jane Toller, Warden MRC Pontiac
