If you want to take in an August corn roast and barbecue that is fun, you need to attend the Campbell’s Bay Litchfield Fire Department’s annual corn roast. The burgers are delicious, the corn well done and the beer is ice cold. You see all of tomorrow’s firefighters all in awe of the big trucks with the sirens and big horns and they are all excited because they are allowed to see the inside and sit in the seats etc. You also run into a lot of our seniors and for them, this is a family event.
Dr. Roland Chretien was there sitting with his family and enjoying himself with of course, his big smile and “How do you do,” and Mr. Kervyn Burman was also in attendance with his family.
It was a great fundraiser for our guys and they work hard at it. Good party guys, congratulations. The rain did not dampen anything or anyone’s spirit.
The splash pad at the Halte in Litchfield was inaugurated on Aug. 13. I was away in Toronto so I could not be there but I was told it was nice.
Now I have seen it all. I was in the front of my shop and I saw a brown truck drive down the pedestrian walk that leads to the parking area in front of the pharmacy and do half a donut then drive away. Really? Has common sense been replaced by something I haven’t heard of yet? It may be quiet in town but we still need people to follow the rules of the road.
The new park is looking great and will be in great shape for the Summer Festival that starts on Aug. 25. We are hoping for nice weather and good attendance. The funds all go towards financing our downtown project.
André Chretien was telling us that he has tame blueberries out on the market this year. He says some are of a big size and very tasty. His fruit farm is doing quite well. He does admit picking blueberries is a big job.
A new baby boy for Derreck and Stephanie Senack, Cooper was born on Aug. 13. He is a second grandchild for Jim and Sophie Ringrose and Murray and Lucille Senack.
We send our best get well wishes to Aggie Morin and to Ken Morin as well.
Our deepest sympathies go out to Roy Romain, his daughter Natalie and Gerard and Natalie’s three daughters on the loss of Ella Romain. She had been very ill and lost her battle with many different ailments.
I guess kids will be heading back to school very soon. They should be ready. The big stores had back to school supplies out in July.
Well, that about does it for this week and we hope we will enjoy nice weather for the weekend.
Father Tanguay’s thought of the week and it’s a good one. “When your past calls, don’t answer. It has nothing new to say.” We are going to miss him, his retirement is very close now. Hope to see you all at the festival.
