Children in need in the Shawville area will wake up on Christmas morning with gifts under the tree thanks to a volunteer effort in the community.
Rhonda Meisner of Stedman’s V&S explained that she and a group of local women got together to organize the Angel Tree project, which will provide gifts to 24 local kids in Shawville, Clarendon, Bristol and Thorne.

Trees are in place in Shawville at Canadian Tire, Stedman’s, Giant Tiger and Pontiac High School, decked out with paper angels denoting each child’s preferences.
“Every kid has more than one angel on the tree, so we can make sure they get more than one gift,” she explained. “This year we put information on the back of the angel that’s specific to the child, so that we can tell people what they like and don’t like.”
She said that those wishing to participate will have until Dec. 9 to return the gifts, to give the volunteers time to organize everything.
“We’d have to fill in the gaps, so somebody has to shop and get it all ready in time for Christmas,” she said.
