Dear Minister,
This is to inform you that a group of retired business people, of forestry equipment entrepreneurs, of labourers, of small businesses and store owners of the Pontiac, and also private investors are interested in founding a coop which would go under the name of . . .
“Coopérative de la Rivière Coulonge”. This would be a great asset in the success of achieving the project of the Davidson sawmill’s revitalization and functioning.
We are presently looking to launch a subscription campaign to collect funds by inviting interested residents of the Pontiac MRC to participate in this coop and to invest in this greatly promising project so vital to our local and regional economy. We are aiming for a $200,000 investment which, to this day, is truly promising. It is important to underline that all these efforts are conditional to the project obtaining a guaranteed supply necessary to its long term functioning.
The funds collected will be administered in trust by an administrative committee voted among the provisory volunteer members. Eventually the coop’s board will be called upon to negotiate an agreement with Davidson Energy SEC and Davidson Sawmill NOUCO in regards with a potential return after 1 year of operations.
As you are aware, our population is faced with great economic challenges since numerous years ago and today the whole Outaouais region faces the same situation. According to us and our peers, the present project is one of the keys to the success of revitalizing our regional forestry industry.
