Dear Editor,

There must be an (provincial) election in the wind. In the Quebec wind. Why would one say that? Well, on Friday, April 22 both myself, and my husband received our revised Quebec Provincial tax returns for 2021 with the amounts that we must now pay for the taxation year 2021. To our (non) surprise, we both had $500 deducted from our returns to allow for the rising cost of living, as stated in the return.

What is so disturbing is that the deficit for 2022-2023 is $6.5 billion and that the budget may be balanced in 2027-2028. Let’s think about this for a moment. First the total cost to issue $500 to each and every individual eligible is approximately 2.3 billion dollars, in 2022.

The 2.3 billion is borrowed dollars which have to be paid back, with interest. And who gets to pay it back and when? This, dear readers, is nothing more than a ploy to ensure your vote in the provincial election later this year, using the same playbook as the Federal Government has in the past.

Let us just say this, our votes will never be bought and others need to use their critical thinking skills before casting their own.

Deeply disturbed with political tactics, they do not pass the smell test.
