Lions of all ages dominated the Shawville Curling Club on Saturday for an annual tournament, now celebrating its 43rd edition.
The Quyon Lions Club brought their tournament back to Shawville, seeing 16 teams VIE for a number of decadent prizes.
Organizer Glen Leach said the tournament is a longstanding tradition, one that he’s overseen for four or five years now.
Generations young and old filled the lanes, as Lions brought in family members to help fill out their numbers.
Leach said they’ve been fortunate to have the continued support of Quyon, and the teams that entered from Shawville. The tournament acts as a fundraiser for the club, proving important while their clubhouse and community centre remains under construction.
As the years have gone on, it’s been harder to get the same numbers in participation, but the community’s dedication has kept it all going.
Leach said they’ve always got those teams that are gung-ho for the day, which makes his job easier. Still, he’s found less people have the time available to commit to the day and admits getting the word out can be difficult.
When the fun wrapped up, one team emerged as the 43rd champions. Brenda’s Beauties, made up of Brenda Clarke, Sue Chabot, Adam Johnson and Heather Desabrais came out on top.
