Sorry I haven’t sent in any articles in the past few weeks but my iPad was down and I was having difficulty finding out how to get it fixed. Last weekend, I went to my cousin Freda and Jacques Dupuis’ and Freda figured out what was wrong with it and now I’m able to do my column again.
We finally had some nice weather last weekend and I was able to leave the house because it wasn’t so cold out.
So, I spent last weekend in Metcalfe, Ont. with my cousins Freda and Jacques Dupuis and Ramona Dunahee. We had a blast all weekend reminiscing about our families and friends and playing Petro and board games. One game we played was called Seniors’ Moments. The best part of this game is that you don’t have to be a senior to play it but it helps. It’s mostly a memory game so of course we did poorly because were all over 60. We sure had a lot of laughs. I would recommend this game to anyone and the whole family can participate.

A few weeks ago I got a call from Georgette Paquette telling me that people have been dropping off kittens and cats around Campbell’s Bay once again. This has got to be the most cruel practice that anyone ever does. You leave that poor animal out in the cold and just think that it can fend for itself. Please have your pets spayed or neutered and quit having unwanted animals. If you do have them at least have the decency to get rid of them in a humane way. You can also bring them to a shelter or those ladies on the island that take care of the animals and find them foster homes and then permanent homes.
On Saturday, I went to the Valentine’s Comedy Night held in Campbell’s Bay at the R.A. Centre put on by the Pontiac Lions Club. They had cocktails at 5 p.m., dinner at 6 p.m. followed by the comedy show and then a dance with DJ Joe .
The first entertainer was Colin O’Brien who was born and raised on the East Coast. He emceed David Suzuki’s Blue Dot tour, was chosen to represent Ottawa in a showcase for Just For Laughs and The Winnipeg Comedy Festival and was featured at the National Arts Centre.
I was sitting with Bruce and Sharon Hodgins and Darlene and Jim Crawford and unfortunately we were sitting right in front of the entertainers. I was mortified because I was sure they were going to pick on us but they didn’t they decided to pick on someone else thankfully.
The other entertainer was Darryl Purvis who was born in Nova Scotia. He performed in several festivals and clubs across North America as well as numerous national television and radio appearances such as his own comedy now episode on CTV/the comedy network and the Halifax comedy Festival on CBC TV.
Both comedians had us all laughing for the length of the time they were on the stage. The few people that did get heckled and were great sports about it. It refreshing to have a nice evening out like that in Campbell’s Bay.
I would like to wish happy birthday to the following people: Beth Dubeau on March 1, Lorraine Hearty, James Kluke on March 3, Linda Romain and Jodi Frost on Marh 4, Paul Haldeman, Karen Quinn on March 5, Connie Belland and Wayne Corriveau on March 6.
February went by extremely fast and now I’m getting anxious for all the snow to disappear and spring to arrive. I’m looking forward to seeing the leaves come back on the trees and the birds returning and being able to plant the garden once again. You know I really do love the four seasons I look forward to seeing each and everyone of them and I also look forward to seeing each one go. Change is fantastic.
If there is anything I forgot to write about please give me a call and I will be happy to put it in for you.
The next big holiday we have is Easter but it’s really early this year it’s at the end of March so I don’t know how nice it will be that weekend. We can only hope that there is no big snowstorm and that the weather cooperates so we can visit our friends and family.
I would like to send out get well wishes to Merlin Brown and Howard Hodgins.
