MRC Pontiac has announced that it will put a call out to tender for a company to assist in the search for investors in the region.
The MRC is aiming to attract businesses to the Pontiac and it will ask for help from a specialized prospecting firm in the private sector.
Industry prospectors identify and solicit firms to come to the region or company they work for.
The MRC’s goal is to use one of these propecting firms to help attract businesses to the Pontiac.
The MRC recently completed a study about the strengths of the region and what businesses are best suited for the region. It then plans to give this information to the firm that’s chosen in order to hone in on potential businesses and industries.
The study looked at what kind of businesses are in the region, what businesses are growing and the strengths of the Pontiac.
“We want to let these businesses know that the Pontiac is here,” said MRC Pontiac Economic Development Director Émilie Chazelas.
She listed the fact that the MRC has cheap electricity rates, affordable land and the region’s proximity to an international airport as advantages the region possesses.
The reason the MRC needs to solicit a private company is because the MRC doesn’t have the expertise on hand.
“We don’t have the human resources here at the MRC to do that,” Chazelas said.
It is unclear how much this contract will cost.
Chazelas said that Invest Quebec will be helping with the program and that the MRC has been in contact with Pontiac MNA André Fortin who sits on the Pontiac’s economic SWAT team.
“We’re all working together,” Chazelas said.
