I get up about 6:00 each day, sometimes a bit earlier. At 7:15 I walk my pup with a friend and her dog. Unfortunately, that hour is not spent in total silence. Rather, there is sighing, whimpering in many different tones, low groaning and of course antics like head flat on the floor or head held sorrowfully between paws.
These are all indications of how bored my animal is and how much he does not want to wait. I can’t explain to him the why of our wait so I endure the show.
As much as I dislike what I experience each day with him, there are times I find myself whining and complaining too. It’s easy to do. If things don’t go the way I want them to go I can start.
The cure is thankfulness. There are times when feeling miserable seems justified but even then, looking for reasons to be thankful has a wonderful effect.
God says we are to be transformed by the renewing of our mind. It isn’t magical. It takes practice. And like anything else we practice, we get better at it all the time.
Practicing complaining makes us very good complainers. On the other hand when we do the opposite we can get good at that too. Thankfulness produces joy and joy spreads outward to others. Try it. It will make you smile.
