Residents of Campbell’s Bay will have the opportunity this month to vote on projects they wish to see implemented in their town, as the municipality’s call for projects is now open.
Campbell’s Bay, in tandem with Quebec’s municipal affairs ministry and the MRC Pontiac, made available up to $20,000 for citizen-led projects this spring as part of an initiative called a “participatory budget.”
Until Aug. 22 residents of Campbell’s Bay are able to vote on which project they want to see the town move forward with. There are two options that can be voted upon: a gazebo addition to the Maurice Beauregard Park, or an updated structure for the baseball diamond’s canteen.
There were two additional submissions that did not make the final round of voting, and were evaluated according to the same criteria: how well the proposals met the requirements, and whether the project reaches a broad audience or target group.
“All four submissions had merit and were clearly put forward with the community in mind,” wrote project lead Jessica Nilsson in an email. “In the end, the two projects moving forward were the ones that best fit this year’s priorities and could be delivered.”
All project proposals had to somehow support tourism, culture, economic growth, agriculture, community development, or the environment.
Those wishing to vote may do so by visiting the municipality or by filling out a Google Form that can be found on the Campbell’s Bay website. Voters must be residents of Campbell’s Bay.
Once the voting is complete, the committee will review and confirm the results, then the winning project will be announced at September’s council meeting via resolution. The project will be carried out over the course of the following year.
The municipality will keep the other ideas on file for potential future funding opportunities through larger grants.
