Vehicle plunges through ice into Ottawa River

A man in his 70s was treated for hypothermia after his vehicle plunged through the ice on the Ottawa River near Luskville on March 6.
Emergency crews received a call around 7:30 p.m. about a vehicle that had gone through the ice near Grues Road in the Municipality of Pontiac.
When fire crews arrived on the scene and approached the vehicle, they found a man in the water.
By the time he was pulled from the icy river, the man had spent nearly 45 minutes in the water.
Municipality of Pontiac firefighters were assisted by the Ottawa Fire Department as well as MRC des Collines police officers.
The man was sent to hospital with moderate to severe hypothermia. He was listed in serious but stable condition.
The municipality wishes to remind residents to exercise caution around water this time of year.
