A sea of green filled Chichester’s Regal Beagle bar on Sunday afternoon for the watering hole’s annual St. Patrick’s Day event.
The lively crowd that grew throughout the afternoon laughed, sang and danced along as local band Adam’s Buoys filled the venue with a vast array of toe-tapping Irish tunes.
“We’re playing Irish traditional music, songs that we learnt over the years playing this event,” band lead Andrew Jones told THE EQUITY, adding that it’s the group’s seventh time playing the bar for St. Patrick’s Day.
“Lots of family and friends are here today [. . .] it’s just a tradition,” he said, explaining that the name of the band is derived from the family name (Adam) of several of its members, himself included, who are cousins.
George Picard, owner of the bar, said the . . .
St. Patrick’s Day crowd is usually “a pretty good crew.”
“They’re already looking to come back next year,” he said with a chuckle.
Event attendee Ryan Adam of Chapeau said the music is what brought him out.
“I’m actually cousins with most of the band, as probably most of the people in this room are,” he said with a laugh. “We come here every year to watch them play.”
“Good music, good people, lots of laughs
. . . a good time!”
“This was always the stomping ground for Mar. 17,” said attendee Lisa Sheedy, who came from Pembroke to attend the event.
“Even back in the day when there was lots of places, we always had to make this one of the stops,” she said.
“Look at all the people here right now, supporting their Irish roots,” Sheedy said, scanning the dozens of shamrock-clad attendees merrily crowding the bar.
“This is what the Pontiac’s about.”
